Not for me, almost all notifications are set to disabled, I don't see what others are doing and what they're upto, and I don't care either.
All I care is keep connection with the subjects of my interests like various groups, banks, stores etc. They're lot more educational, productive and prompt than just checking into people's life and photos, thats simply sooooo lame. Of course, making connection with friends and family is just an added bonus for me, but primarily I didn't select facebook over other social networks just to check photos and their lifes.
Do you even know how fast facebook is being embraced equally by businesses and almost all sites all over? It's lot easier for me to have facebook than individually sign in to sites of my interest, just to make my voice heard, to comment.
