This is what happens when personal interest trounces national wellness.
There aren't many positives to have come out of Mahendra's rule, this is one of them. The land that his own ancestors fought so hard to gain, he gave it away easily.

However, I always wish that our rulers had foresight enough to envision a land stretched upto one of the seaports in the eastern side. Nepal is in perpetual tough situation because it is landlocked and has neighbors like India and China. Our import/export, not just from business stand-point but from every other aspect (security, legislative, administrative etc) is thus severely constrained by our neighbors. Having an open access to a major port would have changed the fortunes of Nepal.
