There is no doubt about the role CIAA plays in the development of our country. Despite a number of high profile arrests in the past, the bribery situation hasn't improved and has gotten worse in the recent years. Funds allocated for development projects are being funnelled directly to the pockets of a select few.

Appointment of Lok Man Singh Karki as the commissioner in chief of CIAA was marred with various controversy, with SC issuing stay order against the appointment. The case against him was about his hand in suppressing the second people's movement of 2005 and amassing wealth through illegal means. However, the man is now the head of the CIAA and has aggressively started going after a number of accused.

Sure, we have seen this in the past. A number of officers and management personnel get sacked (recently a number of Nepal police chiefs got arrested etc) but nobody in top government level is called upon. The issue persists until another head comes and wings the fan a little.

Is it time to be hopeful? Arresting these individuals is certainly not the solution; we have to have a change in our culture . But this is a start. Is Mr. Karki going to hold his end of the bargain and continue the progress? Are you hopeful or is it just another show before the election?
