One of my Nepalese friends (mind you, not me  ) says that the following are the main objectives of the Nepalese associations in the USA:-

1) Establishing an association can help you ink your name on the website of the association FOR LIFE.

2) Conducting parties on Monday nights at a cheap arse rental hall and sell as many  expensive beers as possible to the unassuming ones.

3) Discussing about "development" of Nepal until the clock strikes 12 but do nothing about it except collecting some donations.(And who knows what happens to the easy-gotten fund and if the donors get to witness the results from that currency of their sweat and blood).

4) Then when the alcohol and exhaustion fuelled discussion goes awry, start a fight like bravest of the brave Nepalese do.

5) Using the forum to advertize the various educational degrees you have obtained.

6) Scoring.

7) Celebriting first pseudo-poet Baanu Bakta's birth anniversaries even though all he did was translate the already-created and out-there materials from Sanskrit to Nepali.

( Mind you, he DID NOT or may be safer to say hardly contributed with any new original literary material of his own). On the other hand, LP Devkota's literary works speak for themselves how good he was while Baanu Bakta's works are rather obscure and intangible. Probably, the main agenda of promoting Baanu Bakta was to capture hegemony over all the
Chhetris - (they owe at least 50% loyalty to their non-brahmin ancestors too),
Vaisyas - (Hindu-merchants like Newars, and in betweens),
and Shudras - (Brahmin-created untouchables)
by leveraging the Nepali translation Hindu scriptures that favor the Brahmins (self-proclaimed upper echelon) from every possible angle.

My friend also added this to this particular topic. If you are a
non-hindu Nepalese or have recently converted to a different faith like Christianity, Islam, Buddhism or anything else other than Hindu then you would not fall into at least in the bottom three so called Hindu castes. It kinda makes some sense to me, too.

8) Using the association activities to escape from the monotonous life with husband, wife or children.

9) Burning gasolene and contributing to global warming which would really appease the Republicans (republic cons).

10) Supplementing the number of your pictures on the Internet by being caught  on camera,e.g, appearing Sajha picture albums, at Nepalese association parties which would make you look like a celebrity of sorts but without a name or publicly known talent.
