Desensitizing weapons of mass destruction

Many innocent people lost their lives during the Boston bombing. The act committed by the two accused brothers was horrific, tragic and deplorable.

As the public watches the news over and over they quickly get desensitized to the issue; and now after a week of continuous exposure, the media and the lawmakers are charging the younger brother with using a weapon of mass destruction.

Traditionally weapons of mass destruction were only used for atomic and nuclear bombs that cause thousands of deaths, so it is interesting why the lawmakers are calling it a WMD instead of a pressure cooker bomb which has been used all over the world including in Nepal by the notorious Maoist revolutionaries, without it ever been referred to as a WMD.

As an aware citizen of the world, one cannot help but wonder why WMD is so casually used. Is it a preface to another ghastly use of a real WMD somewhere in the world so that when it happens, WMD is a desensitized word in the mind of the American public?

We will just have to wait and see.
