he CPN (UML) has asked the government to issue the Election of the Members of the Constituent Assembly Act without changes in the draft forwarded by the Election Commission (EC).

Senior UML leaders including party chairman Jhala Nath Khanal met chairman of the interim election commission Khil Raj Regmi at the latter's Baluwatar residence Thursday evening and suggested him to issue the amended Act with the provision for one percent threshold for the parties to get represented in the would-be CA.

The UML leaders made it clear that the party is also in favour of the provision, as mentioned in the EC's proposal, to bar crime convicts from contesting the elections in less than six years after the completion of the sentence.

The draft law remains pending with some parties including the UCPN (Maoist) and the smaller parties opposing the one percent threshold and the disqualification criteria. Nepalnews.com
