Request from Iraqi exiles in Nepal

Dear Friends We, the Iraqi exiles in Nepal, shared your horror at the tragic murder of 12 Nepalese citizens, and like all peace-seeking people share your anger and condemn all acts of barbarism. We were also deeply concerned at the following events, particularly the attack on the Masjid and other actions directed towards people of the Middle East and focused towards Iraqis in particular. We all - Christian and Moslem alike - fled Iraq to escape the same cruelties that were carried out in our country last week. Although the UNHCR insists things are 'back to normal', we know that there is still a minority out there who wish us ill. We are all, once again, living in fear. We fled our homes when the violence erupted on Wednesday, and are still in hiding. UNHCR refuses to acknowledge that there is any danger to our safety here. Meanwhile, they will not send us back to our country, nor, in the case of many of us, will they even make a decision on our status. Among us is even one grandmother, whose daughter and son-in-law are settled in Denmark but herself continues to wait at the pleasure of the UNHCR. We are tired of fear and uncertainty, and simply want to get on with our lives with some security. You can help us by visiting our web page: http://www.geocities.com/iraqi_in_nepal/ From there, please e-mail to the concerned authorities that we are provided with security and justice. Sincerest Thanks for your time in reading this. Firas Al-Bakar Nenos & Nada Akther Elshwa B Audisho
