What does this phrase "I am proud to be Nepali' mean?. I hear that from jingoistic individuals from time to time. Look it is ok to be a Nepali but what is there to be proud about it?. Most of us became Nepali through birth  by default, it is not something that we achieved through hard work. So what is there to be proud about?. I am a Nepali and i have lived overseas for long and i am happy to be Nepali. I have not traded my Nepali citizenship for foreign one because i feel it is unfair to citizens of both countries involved. With dual citizenship if there is chaos in usa then one will return to Nepal and vice versa. Most citizens of the country will be stuck in their homeland. I have always struggled with this decision but as my decision is to finally return home, i decided not to apply for foreign citizenship. It is a personal decision.
However,for those who did, it is an achievement. You worked hard for it. You achieved it. That is something to be proud of. I read somewhere of this white woman who got Nepalese citizenship after about 20 yrs. That is her achievement. 
Everyone has right to pursue happiness as per their own understanding. Let us not misplace jingoism with that.
