It does not really matter what your background is, when it comes to solving GMAT problem.D Definitely having good English and Math is a plus.
Personally, I think taking GMAT class is not going to help you much. Get all the necessary material and master on it. Some of the books I have recommended comes with CD, that contains simulations test, you can try those for timing.
Also, for essay there are certain format and keywords that helps to get a better score. Just Google it you'll be able to find it.
