It depends, but there are lots of consultancies that doesn't even ask you for a dime, esp if you are in a student visa.

Personally, I wouldn't want to pay for the training because, Once I pay them, whether I get a job may not mean a lot to them.Those money are refundable only if  get a job. Me getting job depends on so many things, not just me working hard.

But, if I didn't pay them upfront at least they'll try hard to place me :).
