So-called mob journalists got fortunate enough but as you've suspected IF they had beaten him up, well... I don't want to explicitly say here but there would have been no single presshouse remained intact. All would have turned into ashes, people would have literally slit throats and lot of bahun reporters would have been dead on the road. When that would happen, bahuns won't remain silent and they would retaliate their own way. I'm really angry at that one reporter who instigated all this drama because his one stupid action cost them their entire freedom on the street during these bandhs. It could have been much worse than this.
