Absconding ex-police chiefs

G.P. K, Thank you for your answers. *** By now, I, for one, have altogether STOPPED wondering about whether anything "bad" will really happen to those charged with corruption in Nepal. Despite the ink that a number of columnists have spent on him, Wagle is still walking around, and these three ex-police chiefs too are doing just fine. Like I have often said on Sajha: We all rail against corruption in an abstract sense, but are powerless to do anything that smacks of justice to these allegedly corrupt public officials. Kantipur national daily -- the paper I read every morning -- has NO follow-up news today (Tuesday) as well. It's remarkable how such a major story disappears in Nepal in spite of the so-called 'competitive' landscape of Nepali print media (i.e. there are more than 15, yes, 15 broadsheet daily newspapers in Kathmandu alone, WAY more than what major cities such as London, Paris and New York each have.) Meantime, the Maoists have -- to no surprise -- killed a Radio Nepal journalist for being a spy. They have shut down a number of major industries. And they have called for a nation-wide blockade starting August 18. To play on a Chinese curse, "May we continue to live in these interesting times." oohi ashu
