Well, I guess we all at times have wished that we didn't have to get to home and charge that phone, or wished we didn't need extra multiplug.
But, that actually is a good question and Jantare's Ted talk post is quite enLightening. If this can be harnessed easily, it would be useful. However, since we wont be getting a portable generator soon ( that doesn't run in fossil fuel like diesel), we will still need the high voltage line to deliver the basic power. Only the wire from the outlet to device is removed in the case of the WiTricity
