3 Former IGPs at large 14 August 2004 Three former police chiefs Pradeep Shumsher Rana, Motilal Bohara and Achyut Krishna Kharel are at large and now it is the duty of the special court to find them out, chief commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Suryanath Upadhyay said. On Friday, the commission had filed separate cases against the three former Inspector Generals of Police charging them of amassing property through corruption while holding public position. Before filing the charge sheet at the special court, the commission had asked the three to be present at its office. ýBut none of them showed up,ý said Upadhyay. ýWe tried to contact them but they were nowhere to be found and so we informed the special court that the three are at large.ý The commission has said it has based the corruption cases against the three former police chiefs on the findings of a separate commission formed to investigate properties of people who have held public positions. The commission had said that it did not find the source of former IGP Pradeep Shumsher Ranaýs property worth Rs. 66 million. Another former police chief Motilal Bohara was found to possess property worth Rs 44 million, out of which the source of almost half was unknown. The property of the third retired police chief Achyut Krishna Kharel was valued at Rs. 2.56 million but the source of property worth Rs 1.7 million could not be ascertained, the commission said. The CIAA has demanded that the former police chiefsý property not having source should be confiscated, the three should be penalized and that they be imprisoned.
