Chiranjibi Wagle is doing just fine -- still acting like a neta. As I wrote earlier, it's doubtful that he will actually go to jail or pay the fines. At the very least, Wagle's lawyer Mr. Srihari Acharya remains a relaxed man. ********* Now these three ex-IGPs (see the news below) have been slapped with graft charges. All are -- as reports go -- avoiding the authorities. It's doubtful that anything will really happen to these ex-IGPs, beyond a "halla" for a few days in Nepal. That's because -- by now what has become a predictable pattern -- In Nepal and among Nepali societies, we hate corruption, but can do NOTHING, NOTHING at all, against corrupt people (who may well happen to be our friends and relatives and neighbors), except have the media "out" them once in a while for some sort of mock public outrage . . . before the issue, well, dies down. And so it goes . . . on and on. An example: The following news a big front-page news in yesterday's (Saturday's) Kantipur. Follow-up news to that is nowhere in today's (Sunday's) Kantipur. oohi ashu ********** CIAA drags three Ex-IGPs to SC on graft charges KOL Report KATHMANDU, Aug 13 - The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed cases of graft charges against three prominent former Inspector Generals of Police (IGP) at Special Court (SC) Friday. The CIAA in its petition filed at SC against the three Ex-IGPs accused them of amassing wealth with no resources disclosed through illegal means or by taking the undue advantage of their posts, while working for Nepal police as IGP. Those three former IGPs accused of graft charges include former IGP Moti Lal Bohara, Pradip Shamsher Rana and Achhut Krishna Kharel. CIAA sources say Ex-IGP Moti Lal Bohara failed to furnish resources for his wealth worth Rs 23 million, while Ex-IGP Pradip Shamsher has failed to disclose the resources for his wealth over Rs. 37 million. Similarly, Ex-IGP Achhut Krishna Kharel failed to furnish resources for his wealth amounting to over Rs.16 million. (hbt)
