‘Humiliated’ traffic cops return to work

TULSIPUR, FEB 26 -

Traffic police officers, who had said that they would resign after being humiliated by UML cadres in Dang district, have resumed work from Sunday.

Traffic cops, head constable Padam Bahadur Rawal and constable Dayaram Chaudhary Assistant Sub-inspector Dhan Bahadur Bohara, had intercepted two youths, Ganesh Nepali and Bibek Shrestha, riding without a helmet on Friday. The youths turned out to be the members of two sister organisations of the CPN-UML and their supporters then blocked the road in protest.

YAN and ANNFSU activists filled the road in protest and said they will not give up until the “guilty cops” publicly apologised for their “failure to recognise the leaders” and for detaining them. The nasty situation forced Rawal, Chaudhary and Bohara to apologise for the mistake they “never committed.” The cops then removed their insignia, striped off their uniforms, and said they would resign if they were to face such humiliation for performing their duties.
