What would be the result if the Detroit Auto industries were filled Bankruptcy rather than government bailout?

They always focused on monster truck rather than small fuel efficiency car.  I think they learn from their mistake.
( look at the old Ford Focus and Fiesta and 2012  model ) They re-vamp every thing from management to autos.
