Depends on what you have lined up after graduation.
If you are on OPT and have a job lined up that sponsors, then probably not a bad idea. My advisor mentioned that one time she had a student go back home in an OPT and came back. The student got stuck in the airport because she did not have a letter.
I suggest you not to go home if you plan to stay here in the future.
