Nepal a culture of waste, show off and misplaced ego

Jantare,
When I say that, I don't mean 100% are like that. I am sure you understand that.

"There is utter waste of resources in a country that lacks resources."
- Religion and culture created wasteful practices and it's been going on for a very long time. That's why we need to reconsider many practices. Like for example paasni, bratbandha, gufaa, marriage, etc. Back in the days, the women didn't work, there weren't a lot of people in the planet so you didn't have a lot of relatives so having a party was easier. Not trying to be sexist but thats how it was back then. All the women spend their whole time in kitchen and there were parties for the few relatives one had. Just to get an idea, 100 years back the population of Nepal was about 5 million or less, and now it's 30 million. So if back then you had to call 50 relatives for your marriage you have to call 300 just by linear logic. If you consider the population of the cities then it might even be 50 times more. So it does not make sense to keep on doing it this way.

Not only such religious activities on personal level but also religious festivals which consume so much energies and affect the economies of scale in todays world versus back in the days.

So now we definitely have to do something about it rather than following it blindly even in the present context.

"There is a culture of lavish show off, which cannot be good for anyone. Even ones without resources are supposed to do everything like they can afford it."
-
Like in marriage there are so many processes such as supari, mukh herne and I can't even think about what else is involved where the participants are expected to 'show their wealth and status'. On top of that the irreputable dowry system still exists. I am not talking about individuals showing off with their Iphones or nice cars, but talking about social customs which expect you to show off.

"In the end it all boils down to religion and culture. Culture says this has to be done because of religious beliefs."
- You say that thare are lot of people who don't sacrifice but they also have fun. You are absolutely correct, but if you look at the numbers the ratio, what are the percentage of those? I think more people indulge in these religious extremeties than those who don't. Just look at that amount of excess that religion forces people to undertake. Is it all necessary? Like let's go back to paasni, bratbandha, gufa etc. Do you really need to call 700 people to five star hotel to show that you are doing well at every single religious events? The amount of useless sacrifice of animals is also excessive and brutal in so many case. Torturing animals for religious practices in public. Possibly people didn't have much to do 100s of years ago when such practice were created so maybe it was for public entertainment but in this day and age those practice needs to be stopped!

"What kind of backward culture is that which asks for this kind of commitment? "

- You said it was spontaenous, but cultural practices are far from being spontaneous! You have to follow a certain ritual in order to feel like you are in an OK term with the all mighty, otherwise even harm may come to you or your family so you feel obligated to do it. If you don't walk around the ganesh temple when you pass by, you feel like the god may curse you. It is the religeous beliefs that ask for commitment from you. Commitment for you to be obligated to do a lot of things that don't make any sense.

"The old generation are still visciously tied to the above culture of waste and show off. In order to move forward it is upto the new generation to refuse to practice such nonsense customs."

-
The new mature generation is still tied to the old generations religious practices. They still have to attend to torturous murder of animals in public like that is salvation. They still have to tag along with their parents to parties where they know noone. They still have to agree to marry someone from their own caste. The list will go on for the unnecessary things that the new generation is being forced to do because of religion and culture.
