Dear all, This is no laughing matter. Starting in September 2004 (that is, AFTER this year's Gai Jatra festival), on the first Friday of every English month, there is going to be a series of stand-up comedy performances by various Nepali stand-up artists on a "palai-palo" basis for an hour or so. In the beginning, this will be an EXPERIMENT for three months; depending on how things turn out, the club may develop all the more or shut down with no regrets. So, come, sit back, relax, enjoy your drinks and listen to some great stand-up performances on contemporary Nepali issues in Nepali-English languages. The point of this deliberately INFORMAL and UNREGISTERED comedy club is to get some sort of an amateur/professional comedy scene going in Kathmandu on a REGULAR basis so that: a) new comedians are encouraged to come and showcase their talents. b) comedy as an art form gets all the more developed and becomes more sophisticated c) we all have fun either as performers or audience members. For these three months, all the stand-up performances will be presented as "work in progress" materials so that audience members can give feedbacks to the performers. There will be a modest entrance fee. PLACE Dhokai Ma Cafe, Patan Dhoka PERFORMERS (performing solo) 1. Manoj Gajurel 2. Chatyang Master 3. Oohi Ashu There may be a few others as well. I will post further updates later. Meantime, keep on checking: http://damadol.com Like I said, in the beginning, this will be an EXPERIMENT for three months; depending on how things turn out, the club may develop all the more or shut down with no regrets. oohi "for God, country and Nepali comedy, though not necessarily in that order!" ashu
