Man!!!
I was like what the heck are you talking about here. Kabuda? Cowry???
Then I realized you must be talking about kauda. Right?

Well, if you are referring to Kauda in Tihar, you have 16 kaudas which you throw in the ground (ideally carpet, hard chakati etc). You then count the ones inverted (showing its opening, not the shell side). You have basically 4 players (daus) named: Tirki (3), Chauka (4), Panja (5) and Chhakka (6).
If you have 3 inverted cowries, Tirki wins that round (gets money from whoever threw the cowries). If 4 then Chauka and so on. Now anything below 3 or above 6 (the daus themselves), you add or subtract 4 until you get the daus. For example, you get 11 then subtract 4 from it, you get 7. 7 is not a dau so subtract 4 again, you get 3. So it is Tirki.
There are "Chyankhes" too but will only go over them if you want to know more.
