I've done Delhi airport couple times and the biggest problem for me always has been their ineptitude in running a very busy airport. No seamless transfers between connecting flights,  airline agents taking passport away and non existent communication. 
 I try and avoid it when I can, prefer to take the pacific route but you can't really beat the price and time of transit.
