UCPN (M) demands one million each to family of deceased in conflict

Coalition partner UCPN (Maoist) has pressured finance minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari to announce a relief package of Rs one million each to the families of the people who lost lives in the course of the armed conflict, Kantipur daily reported.

The party has pressured the finance minister to announce a relief package of Rs one million and sanction at least Rs 0.5 million each this year to about 13000 families who lost their family members during the conflict.

There are about 13000 people (apart from the security personnel), most of them Maoist cadres, who lost life during the conflict.

Family of the government security forces - Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) - who lost their family member in the war have received a relief of Rs one million each.

UCPN (M) has argued other victims should also be treated equally and be given a relief package of Rs one million.

The government has so far given only Rs 100 thousand as relief of to the family of the deceased so far.

If implemented, this provision will cost the government an additional Rs 13 billion. nepalnews.com
