i know that taking GMAT and GRE will not give you CPT, i was telling because that will maintain your F1 status.
If you have job and have already filed for h1B regular, try to make it premium.
I got my H1 this year, I got it 2 months after my OPT was expired. I was in cap-gap and I was legally allowed to work. I had to pay FICA though.
So the best thing is ask your employer to change your h1b filing to premium processing, Once you have your h1, you will be safe :)
