I am blown away by your argument comparing a kid getting A on his studies (with his merit) to getting voted "Infant of the year" because of his dad's voting campaign (are we seriously not finding any difference here?).

I think I have made my point already clear, I have nothing against the parents who ask for votes. I just wanted to understand who they are doing it for, the kids or themselves.
