New USA

A new era in US has officially begun.
It didn’t start in 2001, neither did it began with inauguration of the first black president in the history of the 1st world order. It began after a jobless, frustrated young man burn himself thus inciting the Mideast upheaval. It began after thousands of protestors marched in the streets of Tahrir square and, more importantly, Tripoli.
President Obama’s reluctance to lead the troops to defeat a dictator has set a tone on the future US policy. The ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ motto carrying force is now not leading but “supporting”. His speech last night was a far cry from JFK’s inaugural speech of doing everything to defend liberty (paraphrasing), but it was indeed a reality that US has to accept.
This new era will focus on internal affairs more and try to smoothen the international relationships. Sure, it will still look at what benefits the nation, who cares about Yemen and Ivory Coast? The hippocriticism still exists, but has subdued now. This is a new era, a more attuned (with atonement?) and subdued US looks for the Sputnik moment….. once again.
