Thanks for posting this. I also live in upstate New York in buffalo. After I moved to Buffalo for my college, I have been travelling in summer and winter break. Last year after my spring semester, I took Amtrak to come Boston. I was waiting for train to Amtrak station and all of a sudden I saw these border patrol guards came with 3 vans. There were around 15 of them. These guards came and stayed in the station, watched everyone and when the train came, they actually stayed in each door, looked carefully to everyone and checked some people also. I was so scared at that time coz I forget my passport and i-20. But I felt that I was lucky. Then also, when every passenger went inside train, these guards went each cabin to check.

Later I heard a story that after sept 11; they found 2 terrorists in Buffalo, New York. I also heard that they always check every Amtrak to each station in Buffalo. This story also reminds me of one of the Nepalese guy (has over stay in tourist visa) was caught in Amtrak in Philadelphia and later took him in jail of Texas. He was released after a month but they didn’t detain him.
Well, this post made me more conscious because I live close to Canada and I really hate travelling in Amtrak specially in upstate new York.
