Tip 1: use external lamps or room lights and turn off the flash in camera.. this will take care of the problem with the shadow..
Tip 2: use MS-Picture manager, and adjust the pixel on 'edit pictures', if that don't seem to work, then crop the image on all dimensions to adjust the pixel.. and that should definitely work!
