I usually dont get offended, I tell them Im from Nepal but I get very upset when they ask me isn't Nepal in INDIA? I tell them the real thing and then They say "Ohhhhh I always thought Nepal was in India". Sometimes some people even think Nepal is in Tibet which doesnt bother me as much as India.  Apart from that I normally get asked if Im from Philippines, thai or even Cambodian & Thats fine. ON some rude racist encounters that I have had, when they ask me where Im from?? I tell them Im America Indian, Navajo or even Apache then I direct the question to them, WHERE ARE YOU FROM? its funny as hell, I have long hair and fit the profile. They back down right away LOL.

I have a issue though, there are many non white 10 generations+ Americans and more YET they still get asked the same question. Where are you from? but if a white Irish, french or and white looking Caucasians arrived yesterday, and has kids, their kids grow up here they will never be subjected to the question"WHERE ARE YOU FROM?" I think its just unfortunate but we gotta deal with this. NO MATTER how many generations of family you get here and they dont look white, the question will always be there BUT not all of the " where are you from?" is racially judgmental like homeyji writes. In fact most of the question is plain curiosity. Bottom line I dont let things like this bother  me at all.
