Now we are talking. This topic didn’t really belong in the other thread for Bhutanese.

Yes, a strong country means the country men are well protected. Our brothers wouldn’t be humiliated and mistreated overseas if our nation was stronger more resourceful. If there were jobs and minimal necessity items they wouldn’t be leaving Nepal to work in Iraq. Have you ever seen an american, or for that matter a Japanese, being treated as bad as a Nepali “bahadur” in Dubai airport?

Who’s to blame? Politicians? Let’s see, how long has this condition existed? With the recent maoist insurgency more people are fleeing from villages to the town and then outwards, however the condition might have been peaceful before this but not quite ideal. After all something ignited the fire. For last 2 centuries Nepalese have been the least fortunate of the citizens in the world. The biggest cause is the ruling class who suppressed an equal and widespread development, but lately it also is due to the citizens. Leaders don’t go out burning the tires. They can’t call a Nepal bandh on themselves. It is us who do it, we have to understand what is right and what is wrong. Sure our literacy rate is not 100% and we can’t expect everybody to understand the distinction, but those who can should at least try and make others understand. Easier said than done, I could have been in a village preaching these things and instead I am typing it in my computer. But the fact remains, jana-chetana is the only way to get there. Maybe we need a leader who can point out the right from wrong, that would help, until then we can atleast educate our neighbors; instead of saying yaha-yestai-ho we can do something. Once we get stronger Nepal will be stronger and that strength will protect us. Instead of ethnic federalism we have to preach for a national unity. We have had enough gurung, rai, kirat, newa, thakuri, sherpa samaaj…let’s do something together!!!
