IMHO I think if someone says you're beautiful inside-out , you tend to be ambitious to try your luck in a beauty contest, contesting among many alike you. I give it to their confidence than good looks that they actually took whatever "CRAP" was given to them by their family/peers to materialize it into a competition. This will eventually make a not-so-attractive girl attractive after she's come to realize the harsh reality that she was indeed not that attractive to begin with. And her realization would make her shine more!
Regardless, I think its the competition for the seek of the lady with beauty, brains and personality. And everybody deserves their chance to flaunt or apply for that matter. There are equally beautiful and brainy girls that didn't apply for whatever reasons(which we all understand), however those who came out the closet to prove their elegance in a contest like this, should be judged and ranked among themselves!
