A simple question...What motivates you?

Thank you all very much for replying. At first, I had second thoughts of creating this thread because I thought nobody would comment on it.

@Rewire. I really like what you wrote. I understand what you mean by "Nepal view of success of wealth and power".  You went on to say "Sadly, I fall under the same category". To be honest, I think I fall under this category too. Since young, the mentality for me was going to school will lead to a good job and with a good job comes a nice house and a nice life.

I have typical nepali parents. I know they want the best for me but sometimes they can be really annoying. When I entered college, they wanted me to do nursing. They told me that with a nursing degree, I can get a job anywhere. It is true to a certain extent but I just didn't wanna do it. To be truthful, hospitals and doctors scare the crap out of me. If I think I am not gonna die, I will avoid hospitals at all cost. In the future, if I am out of job, I know my parents are gonna use this against me, they will tell me stuff like "we told you to do nursing but you didn't listen to us".

My mom's mentality is either go to school, get good grades or get married. When I was younger, I never really thought about what I wanted to be. I just wanted good grades because I didn't want my mother to get me married off. I think this is why even to this day, I don't know what I am passionate about. I just studied to get good grades. I didn't think of my life as a whole. Maybe my parents screwed me up. LoL.

Another thing I wanna mention is why does it feel so different being a girl in a nepali society. There are double standards for us. The older generation want us to be everything; have a good career, be a good wife(get married under the age of 25, if not you are too old), be a good mother, be a good everything. I think guys definitely have it a lot easier in our society. :-)
