(1) the desire to do well personally so that I can have a decent life for me, my parents and my future wife/ kids.

(2) the desire to make a positive difference in the lives of  others and 

(3) the need to be recognized and appreciated both for my current accomplishments and future potential

Sometimes I am also motivated by the need to be accepted, loved and desired.   

To each his own I guess.
