NEPAL or US

Hi doop_3,

First let me ask you couple of questions:
1. How is your study in grade 11 and 12? Did you do good in SLC? - If these are good, I suggest you to do TOEFL and SAT as well and apply for scholarship.
2. Have you thought about what you are going to study? What will you major in? - People often change minds when they starting going to school. Choose the subject that interest you most - don't study medicine because your parents wants you to be a doctor.
3. Working and Paying for undergraduate is difficult in US. You are not suppose to work outside the school. However you can get work permit (citing financial difficulties after 1 year) which will help you work outside legally 20hrs during schooling and 40hrs a week during vacation. - Working and studying in Undergraduate is tough (maybe it will be bit easy in freshman and sophomore years - but that is if you get job right away). Personally I wouldn't suggest you working more than 20 hrs during schooling.
4. How bad do you want to come to US? - US is not what people talk about in Nepal. US is land of freedom, dreams do come true but it takes time and effort. It won't happen in months and maybe even in years.

I think the main question is how do you want to see your life be in 20 years from now, and how strong you are mentally and physically?

I am not trying to disappoint you but life in US during undergraduate years are like life of dogs in Kathmandu streets or maybe even worse (unless you get scholarship or just transfer to community college and work in gas station, maybe then ride BMW or Mercedes but then again you are working in gas station for rest of your life)

It is much easier and less painful to come to US for Master's or Ph.D. But it doesn't mean you should not at all come to US for undergraduate degree.

"KEEP IN MIND, AFTER YOU COME TO US AND DURING YOUR UNDERGRAD YEARS - EVERYDAY YOU WAKE UP - YOU WAKE UP WITH A PROBLEM THAT YOU NEED TO SOLVE ON YOUR OWN"
If you can do this and don't get depress too often, I would say come to US - doesn't matter what happens - you will find the way out!
