Here is what i know
-After one year, if you file asylum make sure you have decent reason. Like the things was well till last one year, but changed now.
-maintain your f1 status untill your asylum interview is done. If they reject you, then there is a phase ( forgot the name of phase) where they will check your history. If you have maintained your status, you dont have to worry and you can continue your status. However, if you havent maintained your status, your will be in deep trouble.
