SHERMAN, TX-- Store shelves across Texoma are now offering a product that can create a high ten times more powerful than THC and it's legal.


K2 is labeled as an herbal blend, marketed for home incense, but it's being used for much different purposes and could have potentially dangerous effects.


You can find K2 on shelves at gas stations, and all over the web.


"I saw on the internet, people were smoking it, and then I heard from some friends who were smoking it, it was relaxing them. It was like a marijuana effect. You would get to smoke it, and you would get the same high, but it won't show up on a drug test," Tyler Johnson, said.


While the marketing insists, the intended use is for aroma therapy, it sits near cash registers, right next to pipes and tobacco products.


What started as an experiment by one chemistry professor was quickly copied and turned into something else.


"What they would do is simply repeat the synthesis,” professor JohnHuffman, said. “I think we probably made about 100 milligrams, which is very, very little. This was simply one of the large series of compounds that we made. It was made in 1995 by an undergraduate, working in the lab, one summer."


Professor Huffman said he created a synthetic compound similar to THC-the active ingredient in marijuana-for its potential treatment in nausea and glaucoma and as appetite
