Partly agree with newlynew. Birendra was a great human being but not a good ruler. He did a lot for Nepali people (you might not believe it but we can start a list) but nothing aggressive that would lead the nation to prosperity. But also remember how long the kings really got to rule Nepal. THey had the Ranas for 105 years and then Mahendra ruled it for a while then Birendra ruled it briefly until Democracy came.

I highly doubt that if Birendra was here he would be the king. While his supporters are plenty, he had a lot more protestors. I still remember anti King and queen chant before he was dead. What he did wasn't very visual to the public. Those who believed that he was the reincarnation of Vishu loved him and then there were few others who thought we needed King since that was the status quo. Rest of the country didn't support him. It is easy to support and feel sorry for somebody who is no longer here.
