Fire breaks out in Nepal Bank's head office at New Road

Fire broke out at the storeroom of Nepal Bank Limited's head office located at New Road in central Kathmandu Saturday morning.

It took firefighters from the Nepal Army and Juddha Fire Brigade over two hours to douse the fire at started around 5:00 am. Nepal Police, Armed Police Force personnel and locals were also involved in extinguishing the fire.

Documents stored in three storerooms of the bank were completely destroyed in the fire, but complete details of the damage were not available immediately. A few adjoining houses have also been partly damaged.

Local residents had informed the police and the fire brigade after seeing smoke willowing out of the bank's building at around 6:00 am.

It was not clear what caused the fire, but police suspected it might have started because of electric short-circuit.

This was the second incident of fire breakout in downtown Kathmandu in less than 24 hours. Friday evening, three houses were completely destroyed Itumbahal when fire spread from the kitchen of one of the houses. nepalnews.com
