I'm also using Inspiron 1420. As bange bro suggested, try to use internet
by pluggin in the cable. Also, I guess if you upgrade your driver
for the wireless device from Dell's site, your problem will be fixed.
Note that all the drivers will not installed when you install Vista from
the CD/DVD provided by Dell.
