Don’t try to exercise five days a week, you’re gonna be worn out by the end of first week. Try doing three times a week, so that, you can make it a habit. The hardest part is not losing weight but maintaining your ideal weight. You can easily lose 5 kilo and then gain it back in no time. But if you make some changes in your lifestyle now and make them a habit, you will never have to worry about your weight again. Here are some of my suggestions:

Exercising, in general, raises your basal metabolic rate. But if you’re really serious about shedding those extra pounds, try to exercise first thing in the morning with an empty stomach so that you burn your stored fats and not what you ate.

Try to eat less outside and cook more at home. If you do eat out, make healthy choices (like subway haha!). Daal, bhat sadhai khanu parchha bhanne panni chhaina. You can have salad (with very little dressing and cheese) and a bowl of chicken noodle soup for dinner, it will fill you up like daal and bhaat lol.

Whenever you go grocery shopping, pick the products that are fat free or have reduced fat.

Cut down on sugary drinks (sodas), beer, cookies, donuts, etc. Stay away from saturated fats. Now there is noway you can completely avoid them but pick foods with less saturated fat (and calories) in them. Eat more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, yoghurt, etc. They help you digest food better. Eat a balanced diet (I’m sure you already know this).

Too much of anything will earn you some extra pounds. Know your body, know how much your body really needs. Eat and drink moderately :P If you had a little too much today because you were at a party, eat a lighter breakfast the next morning. Learn to balance!

www.eatright.org looks like a great website for nutrition information.

P.S. Keep in mind that when you first start working out, you’re actually going to gain some weight because you’re replacing those fat cells with muscles. And muscles weigh heavier than fats.  Good luck!
