Population of Kathmandu Valley is much more than 1 million.. at least 3 million in the Valley now... so the death toll could be even higher than 69,000 @ 6.0 scale earthquake.

Now if it happens in the night time, say at 3AM with load-shedding, then imagine the dreadful situation in the Valley.
