Embassy allows murdered clerk’s daughter to say goodbye

By O’Ryan Johnson and Laurel J. Sweet

Thursday, December 31, 2009 -

The
U.S. Embassy in Nepal has reconsidered its decision to refuse a
9-year-old Katmandu girl a visa and will allow the child to travel to
Boston to say goodbye to her murdered father, the office of U.S. Rep.
Michael Capuano has announced.

Sanila Dangol and her mother Kalpana Dangol were expected to leave
Nepal today. Capuano (D-Somerville) intervened on the family’s behalf
after they alleged the daughter of immigrant Surendra Dangol, 39, who
was shot to death Saturday behind the cash register of Tedeschi’s Food
Shop on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain, was being detained in order to
ensure her mother’s return from the States.

Surendra Dangol’s killer and a suspected getaway driver remain at
large. Tedeschi’s CEO Peter Tedeschi is offering a $25,000 reward for
information leading to their arrest and conviction.
