BC bro, No social system can be problem proof. That can happen in only in Utopian society or in fiction fairy tale. In US -Racial/ethinic problem is a still a big problem-despite being country of immigrants. Country like nepal where economy, education, jobs and basic necessities are way below any standard and now some people have developed this notion that everything has happened because of so called oppression by one caste to the others. Do any so called-ethnic communities have guts to look at their own life style and review their own culture and modify and improve it? Have any so-called communities guts to respect other's culture and religion? Has newar has guts to rise above KTM mentality and respect those who are outside of it-forget everything-newar of KTM disparage Newar of Bhaktapur and other hillside by calling them " GHAMA"-meaing igonarnt stupid villagers!!
If you look at nepal's statistics, still most ethnic communities are well to do( like newars/thakali-refer to statistical data) because they are trade based. Today they say-lama (tamang) are oppressed communities-but nobody give a second thought that these communities settled in high altitude- where poor country like Nepal, it is impossible to provide basic amenities in such area purely because of geographical constraints and these peole who like to see " sumeru" ( peak of hill because of cultural and religious practice) were edged out-not because of anyone's oppression! All the mongolian communities-who migrated from mangolia and central part of china during -9-17 AD, were living nomadic life- gurung used to carry " bhakari" like moving home later they learnt how to build ( do some research on gurun jati) and settled again in the belt of annapurna-now u tell me they are oppressed by whom ??if u can not open a school in Sikhles is that KTM people's fault?. Funniest thing is, now they are one of richest communities thanks to British Gorkha but they are still called them oppressed -by whom? Did they go to British/Indian army coz in nepali army nobody wanted them-or was there a greater likelihood that they're gonna be oppressed by other thakuri hat they opted nepal army? and this is why they opted for british army? u ready to buy that ??
First all the ethnic communities need to learn where they lacked in a history and not repeat that. I am newar grown up in Thahinti/Thamel-seen some ethnic communities who would wear saffronin day time, some kept - ride in prado pazero and at night intoxicated -no offense but this is also a reality are they really oppressed?? and some of them either kept gold biscuits under Bhedako sukuti. Today they are also opressed.....u kidding me??
I being a newar-I understand culturally it was so hard for us to give up some cultural practices (thanks to them we still known as newar) which I feel proud but yet some of our practices needs to change. But how can I blame others for that?? My mom being educated would not want my Manandhar friend in Kitchen. So now should I blame bhaun/chetri for that?? My urge -for every ethnic communities-think about ur own life style and choice of your living has made you deprived not the oppression from other caste. You yourself need to change first!
