I had this old Hi-8 supported Camcorder, which had some tapes that I wanted to digitize. Pinnacle's 'Dazzle DVD recorder' did a pretty good job in converting those videos recorded on the linear tapes to a DVD-Play format. It's not clear as to what type of camcorder you have, but it looks like this device supports a number of different types/models.
