I dont think there will be any problem with that. My friend had takena semester break and been to Nepal. He didnt register for classes in summer aswell.

I had a talk with my advisor ( i'm quite close with her ) There won't be any difficulties with that. I think your advisor said that because of lack of  knowledge. I'd advise you not worry but enjoy the trip.
