Defence minister warns of army deployment if Maoist protests turn violent

Friday, 30 October 2009 15:44

Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari has warned of army mobilisation to crush the Maoist protests if they grew violent.

Inaugurating the office of the Madan Bhandari Foundation in Chitwan on Friday, Minister Bhandari said Maoists have not been able to convert themselves from an arm rebel force into a normal political party and that that army deployment to contain the Maoist protests is possible if there is violence.

Irked by the protests of Maoist cadres, who also showed her black flags, Minister Bhandari said Maoists still have the hangover of the armed rebellion.

Stating that the Maoists must seek answer to civilian supremacy at the parliament not on the streets, Bhandari alleged that Maoists are in hatching a plan to capture state power. She also challenged the opposition party to show their majority in the parliament to lead the government. nepalnews.com
