I find it ridiculous that everyone is going on and on about how funkybuddha917 mentioned higher stipend than they get paid. I felt that he answered the question originally posted on the forum. Don't be hating guys! And snowfed river just because you get around 10,000 dollars per year does not mean that it is the average stipend for the Nepalis.
Snowfed river, it seems that you do not know that we Nepalis do quite well in schools in the US. We have among the biggest international student population in the US and furthermore, there are a lot of Nepali kids in good schools throughout the US. You said you are in the field of Biosciences right? Did you know that there is a Biostatistician at Harvard (Shiva Giri)? Did you know that Assistant Head of Department of Biology at MIT is a Nepali? (Uttam Lal Rajbhandary)? So please don't think that an average nepali here in the US is you because it seems you have set quite a low standard for the Nepalese.
Apparently, according to this article, the average Bio stipend is $18,270 (http://chronicle.com/article/Graduate-Students-Pay-and/36366)!
