Rollover claims life of Woodward man

Balram Gautam, 23, of Woodward, died when his vehicle rolled 3.5 times at 12:15 a.m. Saturday.

The fatality collision occurred 13.7 miles north of Mooreland on State Highway 50 in Woodward County. Gautam was driving a 2004 Nissan northbound when his car left the roadway on the right, came across the highway and went off the road on the left, impacting the embankment and rolling 3.5 times coming to rest on its top. He was pinned in the vehicle 1 hour and 35 minutes. Gautam was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries.

Condition of the driver was listed as drinking-ability impaired. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Trooper Mike Fike, assisted by Trooper Jarrett Iliff, both of the Woodward Detachment of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, investigated. They were assisted by Woodward County Sheriff’s Department, Woodward Fire Department, Freedom Fire Department, Mooreland Fire Department, Woodward EMS and Freedom EMS.
