VP gives ambiguous reply on taking fresh oath to SC

 Vice President Paramananda Jha
Vice President Paramananda Jha has given an ambiguous reply to the Supreme Court, obscurely indicating he is not ready to take fresh oath in Nepali, in a letter sent to the court, Wednesday.

Although SC had asked VP Jha to clearly mention, if he does not want to take fresh oath in Nepali, the VP has not done so.

Instead, he has mentioned, I am still in confusion about in which language to take the oath in. There is confusion about which language the government uses for its records, Jha has mentioned in a letter written to the court Wednesday.

VP Jha has also claimed, the SC had not annulled the oath paper in Nepali he signed.

"Although, the court has annulled the oath I had taken in Hindi, it has not ordered the President to re-administer oath to me," Jha has written further.

Indicating in a roundabout way that he is not willing to take fresh oath in Nepali, VP Jha has said, I can 'do something' if the President agrees to administer oath and the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers makes arrangement for the oath-taking and informs me. He has not clarified what 'doing something' means.

The President's office has already written to the court saying the President is willing to administer fresh oath to the VP, if the latter is willing for it. The court had sought information on the efforts undertaken to implement the court's orders from the President's office.

Likewise, the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers has also written to the VP's office seeking his permission to make arrangements for an oath-taking function, following a cabinet decision to this effect.

A full bench of Justices Tapa Bahadur Magar, Ram Kumar Prasad Sah, Kalyan Shrestha, Prem Sharma and Bharat Raj Uprety is hearing on a writ filed by Nava Raj Nyaupane and Bishnu Prasad Bastola demanding Jha's dismissal from the post of VP accusing him of continuing work without retaking the oath despite court orders. nepalnews.com
