Timi mero sathi (aha, kasto ramro nam)

If you are a bahun, you should know that no one blames you personally because just as there is clear chokho water between Upadhayas and, how shall we put it, derivatives like Kumais and Jaisees (and I didn’t make up these distinctions), there is an almost unbridgeable chasm in between being a bahun and a bahaunist. A bahun may be a bahunist, but not all bahuns are bahunists or, in Nepali, bahunbadi (bhramanabadi, if Quikel Sir’s strictures are to be followed). You would be perfectly entitled to ask what’s the difference and the answer is equally clear: bahunbad or bahunism is the sum total of the most deplorable “isms”. So its practitioners, the bhanunists, who are not defined with reference to any genetic pool, are racists, castists, supremacist, terrorists, etc, but that hardly makes individual bahuns all these things (Pukada being the one true exception, of course). And it’s the ease with which these terms are used interchangeably, or misused, that leads to all this confusion. Now you can stop getting so worked up about all this and while you are at it, how about a quick rudhri, for shanti?
